Rethinking passenger information for a unified UK rail system.

A clearer system for a fragmented network.
With the nationalisation of British rail set for 2027, this project explores an opportunity to rethink how passenger information works across the entire network.
Currently, each operator delivers its own experience — from announcements to visual systems — creating inconsistency and confusion for passengers moving between services. This concept focuses on unifying those experiences into a single, clear system that works across both rail and underground networks.
The UK rail network is made up of multiple operators, each with their own approach to communication, layout, and user experience. This results in inconsistent information, unclear hierarchies, and a lack of familiarity for passengers.
The challenge was to create a unified system that improves clarity without removing the identity and independence of individual services.

A unified, modernised and understandable system.
This concept introduces a consistent visual and auditory language across the UK rail network — improving clarity, reducing cognitive load, and creating a more intuitive passenger experience. By focusing on hierarchy, motion, and real-time feedback, the system helps passengers understand where they are, what’s happening, and what comes next — regardless of the service they’re using.
